Prior Approval for larger single-storey extensions

The 'larger home extension' scheme lets single-storey rear extensions go beyond the standard PD depth limit via a neighbour consultation process.

Detached houses can extend up to 8m (up from the standard 4m); semi-detached and terraced houses up to 6m (up from 3m) - permanent since May 2024.

You must notify the council, who consult neighbours. If no objection is received within 21 days, the extension is deemed approved without a full application.

All other Class A limits (height, materials, no more than 50% curtilage coverage) still apply on top of the extended depth allowance.
